The Colorado Outward Bound School Black Tie and Tennis Shoes gala is coming up soon! We wanted to share the following so you know what to expect on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 pm at Mile High Station (2027 Old West Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80204) so please read on. All guest information and our sponsors can be found at www.cobs.org/black-tie. A special thanks to everyone who makes this evening of celebration and support possible!
What to expect:
The first part of the evening – before our guest speaker, Erik Weihenmayer – is designed to be a mingling reception. The COBS community is an incredible and fun group of people. So get to know each other, catch up with old friends, and enjoy yourselves!
Please enjoy dinner during this part of the evening. We have food stations around the room as well as passed appetizers. There will also be a full cash bar, and complimentary vodka cocktails through Tito’s Handmade Vodka. The program will begin at 7:30, at which point the silent auction will be closed. Guests can find seats before the program begins. Our program this year includes Erik’s presentation, an inspirational video of this year’s students in the field, a live auction and a paddle raiser. Following the program end at 8:55, the checkout and coat check will open for folks needing to head home – it is a school night after all. The event closes at 9:30pm, but feel free to catch up with friends until then!

Erik Weihenmayer is one of the most celebrated and accomplished athletes in the world. In 2001, he became the only blind person in history to climb Mount Everest. When he stood on the top of Carstensz Pyramid in 2008, he completed his quest to climb all of the Seven Summits-the tallest peak on each of the seven continents.
In September 2014, Erik and blinded Navy veteran, Lonnie Bedwell, kayaked the entire 277-miles of the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River, considered one of the most formidable whitewater venues in the world. Erik continually seeks out new adventures, focusing his efforts on empowering people traditionally swept to the sidelines of life. He founded an organization called No Barriers, which helps people with challenges tap into the human spirit, break through barriers, and contribute to the world.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Everest ascent, Erik and his team founded a new No Barriers program, No Barriers Warriors, which uses teamwork and the mountains as a transformative force to help veterans reclaim their lives after devastating injuries.
Erik is the author of two best-selling books: his memoir, Touch the Top of the World and The Adversity Advantage, which offers lessons for turning challenges into greatness. He is an internationally recognized speaker and brings his message of living a No Barriers Life to audiences around the world.
Address and parking
Mile High Station is located at 2027 Old West Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80204. There is a parking lot, but please think about carpooling, for us and the environment.
You can also take the light rail. The closest stop is on line C or E “Sports Authority Field at Mile High” Stop. Once you get off go west on Walnut over the railroad tracks under 1-25 and past two brick buildings. The street will wind around to the right and Mile High Station will be on the right side.
