Colorado Outward Bound School is the oldest outdoor education program in the United States.
COBS has been partnering with schools and organizations for more than 50 years to deliver experiential education programs in our spectacular outdoor classrooms. From Olympic Volleyball teams to local Denver schools, the takeaways of an Outward Bound experience are highly relevant to any group or team. We can customize the activities and curriculum to correspond to the learning objectives and goals of your group.
COBS Instructors are not only the premier outdoor leaders regarding risk management and technical expertise. They are also equally skilled in education, character development and group dynamics. A custom COBS course for your group or school is not just a fun wilderness expedition - it's adventure and fun with a purpose.
Program Areas & Activities
As the oldest outdoor school in the US, COBS has access to some of the most pristine and difficult to access wilderness areas in the country. We operate primarily in the Colorado Rockies and the desert and rivers of Southeast Utah, though for longer courses we can also integrate sections in Arizona, Wyoming and Alaska. Additionally, we have established base camps in Leadville and Marble Colorado, as well as Moab Utah. These facilities offer flexibility with indoor and outdoor spaces and dining areas. Leadville and Marble also host extensive ropes course programs. Other possible course activities include backpacking and mountaineering, rafting, canyoneering, service projects and rock climbing.
I regard it as the foremost task of education: to ensure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial, and above all, compassion.
