Christen has worked one year with COBS as an Assistant Instructor on alpine backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, and high-ropes course programs out of the Leadville Mountain Center. She is certified in WFR, CPR, and LNT, and also has completed Alpine, Rock, Educator, and Challenge Course trainings. Christen’s background is in public-lands conservation and outdoor writing. Her personal trips include ice climbing in New Hampshire and the Adirondacks, classic mountaineering routes in the Tetons and traditional lead climbs around the northeast. In the off season, she is working toward a master’s degree in occupational therapy.
Before coming to Outward Bound Christen spent five years working in Washington, DC with a mission to motivate the nation’s leaders to set aside land for outdoor recreation. When the time came for a change of pace and location, Outward Bound was her No. 1 choice. With her extensive personal climbing, backpacking and leadership experience, COBS’ balance of challenge through adventure was a perfect fit for her. She made the transition to Outward Bound in spring of 2014.
She adores the course areas in which she works and is often found leafing her way through a “Wildflowers of Colorado”book. What keeps her inspired about Outward Bound is the ability to connect with students through the adventure, discovery and traditions that are born on course.
