  • This is Julie’s first season at Outward Bound and she will be an Assistant Instructor on Youth and Super Youth Alpine Backpacking courses out of the Rocky Mountain base (Leadville Mountain Center).

    Julie is a NOLS graduate and a certified Wilderness First Responder and Leave No Trace Master educator. She has worked in many different places throughout the country in outdoor education including in Montana/Yellowstone for Ecology Project International and in California for Naturalists at Large.

    In spring and fall Julie instructs for Naturalists at Large in California.

    A Colorado native and lifelong nature lover, Julie earned her B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Colorado – Boulder. While at CU, she became very involved in environmental issues and started a student-run home energy efficiency program at the University’s Environmental Center. After college, she continued working in sustainability – in energy efficiency and recycling – before remembering her passion for the outdoors and sharing it with others and jumping into outdoor education. After completing a course for outdoor educators with the National Outdoor Leadership School, Julie has worked in Wisconsin, Montana, Wyoming, California and Colorado in outdoor education and is thrilled to be working for Outward Bound.
