This is Steve’s 6th year working out in jaw-dropping Moab for COBS. In addition to his role as Moab’s Program Manager, he still loves being able to instruct and course direct amongst the mountains, canyons, and rivers of Utah. Steve’s first time camping was in college, and he immediately realized that he was at his happiest out in the wilderness. He graduated in 2003 with a degree in education, and after student teaching in a classroom he confirmed that he loved educating others, but missed the outdoors. In the intervening years, Steve worked to unite education in the outdoors in his life, and it has allowed him to work in Ohio, Colorado, Wyoming, California, Tennessee, North Carolina, Montana, and now Utah fulfilling those passions in many beautiful environments with equally beautiful people. Some of those jobs included guiding rafts on whitewater in Tennessee, backpacking for a therapeutic wilderness organization in the Appalachians, scrambling around in the Mojave desert teaching earth sciences, and exploring the Tetons and Yellowstone country on horseback with campers. The ability to continually open people’s eyes to their true potential and surprise themselves is what keeps Steve coming back to COBS. In his spare time he finds himself doing the same things that he does as a job: climbing, canyoneering, rafting, biking, and reading and in the winter off-season. Steve loves to travel and adventure, whether around the globe or throughout the nooks and crannies of America.
