Sneak Peek: Black Tie & Tennis Shoes Gala
October 1, 2014–
We’re just a couple of weeks away from our annual Black Tie & Tennis Shoes gala and it’s going to be a night to remember! 2014 has been an incredible year and we have much to celebrate, from repurchasing our historic Marble basecamp to sending amazing scholarship students on course, meeting new friends and welcoming an entirely new class of alumni into our family.
With all great celebrations comes the opportunity to reflect and look forward, and this year, we’ll talk about the Courage to Explore with keynote speaker James Mills and a special presentation from one of our scholarship students.
At the event, there are a number of ways guests will be able to support our work. Here’s a sneak peek at what you have to look forward to:
The Wishing Wall is chock full of opportunities to directly support students and staff in the field. Expansion of programming in Alaska and an increase in winter Vets courses has put a strain on our existing gear and systems. Increase of bear activity along our rivers has necessitated upgrading our food storage. Your pledge towards a much-needed item allows COBS equipment to keep pace with our growth.

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be an Outward Bound student, or better yet, an instructor? Join the Colorado Outward Bound School and get behind the scenes on your own Outward Bound adventure. An invitational trip is the perfect opportunity to gather your close friends or family members on a guided trip.
Canyoneering: Utah’s canyon country is a wild and mysterious place. Climb, stem, scramble, and rappel through slot canyons on a four day trip with five or more of your friends and family. This Outward Bound experience will take you to places rarely traveled; you’ll find yourself face to face with the canyons our students regularly traverse. Subject to weather and permitting; dates are available in spring and fall 2015. Bid starts at $3,500.
Whitewater rafting: Run the iconic Yampa river, the last undammed tributary of the Colorado, or hop on down to Cataract Canyon, some of the biggest and most challenging rapids in the red rock canyons of Utah. You and five of your closest friends and family (or more) will never forget this adventure, a classic Outward Bound experience. Subject to weather, flow, and permitting; dates are available in spring and early summer 2015. Bid starts at $4,000 for your own river adventure.
Rocky Mountain backpacking: We spend much of our summer in the Elks and Collegiate Peaks with our students, weaving over high mountain passes and crossing raging streams to summit rocky peaks. Enjoy the changing seasons by backpacking in some of our favorite course areas and even summiting a 14er or other peak. You and five or more of your family and friends can join. Subject to weather and permitting; dates are available in late summer and fall 2015. Bid starts at $3,600.
Bid on a COBS Professional One Day Program for your Team or Group at work! If you have never worked with COBS Professional before, here is your chance to learn what we’re all about, as well as learning about your team and yourself.
Your team will come to the Leadville Mountain Center for a full day program of initiatives and your choice of High Ropes Course or our Eco Challenge course. This program is for up to 20 participants and includes lunch, all activities, as well as COBS Pro facilitation.
The date you choose sometime in 2015 will be mutually agreed upon by you and COBS. We will work with you to customize the program to meet the goals you have for the day with your team, as well as which activities will best meet those goals.
If you have more than 20 participants, we will charge a nominal fee for additional participants. Bids start at $4,000.
